I held my Spring Piano Recital on Saturday. Huge success! I love these kids; their amazing. Almost all ten memorized their two songs and played their hearts out in front of probably 50-60 people. I held it at the church this time so we could all fit in one room. I liked having it all together. It makes me so happy to pass on one of my few talents!
Of course, having a get together you always have a few things not go as planned, right? I'm finally laughing about it now, but on the way to the recital I had all the goodies in our little car and the decorations, also my children--can't forget them. I had to stop to pick up Justin at work so he could come and do the chairs and tables for me (I was trying to be good and not lift--looking out for little baby girl kroff).
Well, I had forgotten my phone so I couldn't call to let him know I was there. So, I turned around and asked the kids kindly (okay maybe threatened a little) to stay in their seat belts; I was going to pop my head in the store, tell Justin I was there, and be right back. Well, just as I was turning around and heading back to the car I see Spence climbing over the front seat--my heart started to pound and I started running. I was trying to save the pumpkin bars that Sister Ward had so kindly made for me. I caught him just as he was tumbling in the frosting. Luckily he didn't sit too hard in them and we were able to fix the frosting a bit; next time I'll make sure I have napkins or baby wipes or something to help a rescue in the car. (Sorry, to those that ate them and you're now reading that a little boy fell in the frosting).
Sadly to say a little of my bad luck kept coming. Just as we were pulling up to the church and still feeling paniced about the frosting and the mess and . . . ya know, Justin gets a call from work that the family he had been waiting for all day just showed up (they were ready to spend $10,000 on furniture). So, he quickly helps me set up chairs and tables and rushed back to work. We left my lemons, ice, telephone, and purse in the car of course too. So, I run about getting things in order with what I have and thankgoodness the Ward Family came to my rescue and helped the last finishing touches.
We got through the recital with no printed programs--thanks to my printer not working that morning and I'm feeling pretty good about the outcome when the contactions start again. That's right. I've been having early contractions all week and trying to take it easy--well, I guess having piano recitals isn't quite takin' it easy. I was having a hard time standing up straight so I finally admit to the Ward's that Justin isn't coming and I need some help. They brought me home and Misty (bless her heart) got the kids fed and in bed and I have spent the rest of the weekend in bed or on the couch. Shall we say--I'm pretty bored and soooo grateful to great primary counselors, visiting teachers, and the Ward family.
Sometimes we just sacrifice a little for somthing as wonderful as these piano kids! I love this little part of my life!
